Hello! I am a BFA Acting major at DePaul, so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask
@dreambelle13 Could you fill me in on your knowledge of DePaul? I have been accepted to the BFA Acting program and am overwhelmingly excited, and would like to absorb any and everything about the school. Regarding the intensity and quality of the training, the city, and the acting program as a whole. As well as rehearsal process for shows, class room work, etc. As I said before, any and everything helps.
@Discovers
The Acting program used to be a “cut” program, but that policy was discontinued a few years ago and is certainly not the “norm” among other top programs either. There’s no formal evaluation that I’ve experienced, but I know you can technically be asked to leave the program if you’ve had serious disciplinary issues. I would absolutely not worry about that, though. I’ve never even heard whispers of that happening to anyone. The environment of the school isn’t even cold or cutthroat. It’s an exceedingly supportive environment. I hope your niece will apply!
Thank you, HannahMTheatre. Can you tell me if most of the theatre classes are held at the Lincoln Park campus, at the Loop or both? How does the traveling from one campus to the other on the train work out, especially for kids who are not accustomed to big cities or public transportation?
Most, if not all of the theatre classes are in the theatre school building. The Gen Ed classes are in Lincoln park and some are at the Loop. But My D tried to get a class in the Loop because she thought it would be fun- transportation is really easy. THe train is literally on campus and very easy to manage. Students ride free all year. It takes less than 10 min to get downtown. It is a really easy city to navigate. But, you should visit to make sure it is a right fit for your D!
I’ve only ever had classes in Lincoln Park - and I take a lot of extra classes (I’m double minoring and probably upping one of my minors to a double major), so it’s VERY doable to keep everything at Lincoln Park. That said, yes, the train system is super easy and the ride is very quick. I am horrible with directions and moved to Chicago from a small, rural town in Georgia, and I had no problem adjusting.
