<p>Hello,</p>

<p>I am 23 years old, will be 24 this April, and I plan to fill out the FAFSA soon for this upcoming winter semester.</p>

<p>I don't know much about the FAFSA, and when I did the worksheet on the FAFSA website to determine my dependency status, it asked if I was born before January 1, 1987 and I was born on April of 1987.</p>

<p>I'm wondering if that date changes at all, and if I will indeed be considered an independent during that semester, or only after my birthday and in time for the next semester.</p>

<p>It will not change for this current school year. It will change for the 2011-2012 FAFSA available in January, which will be the FAFSA for the 2011-2012 school year (starting next fall). So you will be independent for the next school year, but not any part of the current school year.</p>
