Dept. Credit by examination

Could anyone tell me if there is an advantage to do the dept. credit by examination over taking an AP test? For example, I am taking AP Chemistry my senior year, what are the pros/cons of doing this at A&M with their dept. test over taking the AP test in May?

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure none and that it’s easier to study for the AP exam since there are so many prep books and practice tests/FRQs out there.

Also, it might even be better for you to retake the general chemistry depending on your career goals.

Here are initial thoughts:

If anyone has done the dept. credit, I’d like to hear their experience–thnx.

I personally had a month to self-study AP Chem and Phys B and received 3’s (a 3 for AP Chem gives you credits for one semester)… so I recommend spending the extra $39 on it.

Waiting should be the LEAST of your concerns. You can always take the department exam after the AP exam if necessary (but you might forget stuff by then). Also, there is the CLEP exam which is multiple-choice as well.

After getting my AP scores, I retook the General Chemistries at a community college and found that the content for them was familiar but required studying nonetheless.

fyi-a score of 4 is needed for aerospace engr dept. to count the 1-sem. chemistry credit

Could you please link to where you read that?

Because I just went off of http://engineering.tamu.edu/media/174459/ap.pdf.

It is direct from an email from the a.e. dept.
