Crap.
Located in GA (45th in education). Offers around 12 AP classes, but a ton of unqualified people take them because of a 5 (yes 5) point curve on report cards. Hence, another problem: grade inflation" it’s incredibly easy to achieve a 99 average. (One person had a 1500 SAT and a 4.0) Average SAT score: 1510 and my school is proud of it! Maybe one person to an ivy every other year. No math or science oriented clubs. Super oriented on sports. Literally, every graduate either goes to UGA or Georgia State (which isn’t necessarily bad). Unresponsive, unreliable counselors. Although, teachers are good. Overall, I feel unhappy here. Plus side: the school may increase my chances at an ivy!

Medium-small-ish (Just around 900). Private. Reputation for wealth, legacies, etc., but still open to new faces. ~10 APs offered, most classes in that area are simply AC (accelerated) so the teachers can do what they want. Lots of school spirit and high expectations, even outside of academics. Also pretty strongly sports-oriented, to the near exclusion of other departments (essentially looked down upon at least a little if you don’t do a “worthy” sport). It’s not perfect, but I am really really happy here. From what I know of other schools in my area, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.

Mines medium sized with a little over 1000 kids. (Although it used to be pushing 2000 a few years before I got there even though the building can in no way accommodate that many kids.)

It’s kind of joked for being the country school in our district since it draws from all the REALLY rural parts of the city. We also have the reputation for being the school where pretty much half of the population smokes weed due to us being the closest school to the beach and a lot of our students live at the beach. haha. It’s a middle class school, with all ranges of middle class in it.

The building is pretty old and kind of falling apart, but we’re all used to it so it’s okay. Haha.

We have 18 AP classes, 1 dual enrollment, and honors for all english grades available. Even though the building is in poor condition and stereotypically our demographics (with the rednecks) would usually mean that we would be a stupid school, we’re most definitely not.

Mostly white, pretty much no black kids. And even the black kids that go to my school are joked by all the other schools as being white, haha. There are barely any asians or hispanics or any other minorities.

We have a pretty good number of kids who end up going to UVA or William & Mary, but a hefty percentage go to Virginia Tech, JMU, ODU, or VCU.

All in all, I love my school. They’re building a new building for it about five minutes away that should be finished the year after I graduate. I’m glad I won’t go there. The school wouldn’t be the same without the old, falling apart, and rundown things that are in it. I guess it’s part of its strange charm? haha.

funny side note about the whole weed issue: a teacher was telling me that she was in the hallway when she heard these two kids loudly talking about weed. she was like “uh? I’m kind of standing right here? Are you looking to get in trouble?” when the school police officer walked by. To freak the kids out she called him over and told him what the kids had been talking about. The police officer just laughed and was like “What can you expect? It’s this school. As long as they don’t actually have it here with them.” haha.

Medium sized with about 1200 students. Located in a pretty interesting area ranging from upper middle class down to pretty low class. We have an IB program and a decent amount of APs. We had a little bit of a violence issue this year, but it really is a great school. 2 seniors this year got early acceptances into ivies (Penn and Cornell). It has been consistently ranked in the top 100 high schools in NJ. We have an amazing visual and performing arts department, finance, information technology, pre engineering, and business program and students from outside the district can apply and audition to come to the school for the programs. All in district kids need a major by sophomore year and can choose from any of the above or humanities and social science, sports med and management, math and science, and international and cultural studies. I was in creative writing my freshmen year, dropped it to double in math sophomore year and so I did humanities, and now I am in the IB program and I couldn’t be happier. We also have an alternating block schedule (A/B days) which is awesome because we have 4 82 minute periods a day and then a 35 minute lunch and a 35 minute study hall in the middle of the day.

1600+ easily the most diverse school in the state, there isn’t one overbearing race, (unless in the honors classes and you can guess who is largely represented haha) we get some really smart people who are the children of the professors at Rutgers since it’s 5 minutes away. We also get a bunch of getto ppl who bring our average sat down to 1560. We always get about 4 kids into ivies a year. Really low but we have ppl accepted to Harvard Yale Princeton Wharton duke to name a few. It’s an Interesting school with a principal that looks like Peter griffin and everyone hates. Haha that’s pretty much it. And we have one of the best soccer and football teams in the state

@skatie80

Lol. One kid tried hiding weed in her hair, by putting it into a high bun. Another tried hiding it in her “snookie poof”.

My school is medium (around 1200) and public. But it’s like 92% white or something like that.
The kids here are generally middle middle-class to upper middle-class. It has good academics, but not great. We do well on state testing, and have like around 10 APs. Our band is amazing, as is our softball and soccer teams, but otherwise our sports teams suck. However, it’s frustrating because since it’s a fairly small town in Texas, many are rather judgmental and conservative and ignorant. It’s pretty average and suburban. I deal with it, and it helps that Austin is only a few miles away. I’ll be out of here as soon as I can though :)

medium (around 1000), fairly upper middle class, 90% white. a lot of students are children of professors, lawyers, or businesspeople, so it tends to be a pretty intellectual school (also 70% democrats). a large number of students take honors/ap classes, but there is definitely the redneck contingent (big part of school). they wear camo and hiking boots to school, also a lot of big partiers. we are the best public school in the area, and we sent about 7 kids to ivy league schools this year. most of the top 10% go to UVA, and a lot go to VCU. its an interesting mix, i would say

A public of around 4000 people in SoCal. Weird it doesn’t seem so large. Lots of AP. Recently, we were established as an IB school. It’s fairly competitive I would say…White is the majority. Most of them have rich parents with pHD’s…

A private school in the city with between one and two hundred students in each grade. Is an IB school but with limited subject choice options (no Philosophy, German). The top 10-20% of the students are really competitive. Most families are upper middle class but some variety in socioeconomic backgrounds. School has both native English speakers and international students. Anywhere between five to twenty students go to prestigious universities.
