Design your own major..

Is there a program that allows students to design their own major, or do you have to strictly go with one of the options. I know Princeton is big on liberal arts, but do they have a specific program?

It's very rare, maybe 1 or 2 people every couple of years. You won't find it on any website or in any pamphlet, it's kind of kept under wraps and very informal.

To go along with Voovi, it is rather rare, but I think there are several independent majors each year.

Its not that difficult to do, and as long as it is reasonable, the committee will approve it. The most popular independent major is bioethic, and we have a few courses on that topic, so it is fairly popular.

Also, the independent majors guy (Dean Ordiway) is really great and a good guy to work with especially if you want to be nominated for a Rhodes, Marshall, or other scholarship down the road (since he does a lot of the picking and choosing)

That being said, it is still pretty rare to do an independent major, and not the best idea. Princeton really likes each student to be in a department because it just makes things easier for them...but also, being in a department is good for research $$$$$.

Thanks guys, you really know what you're talking about.
I know princeton has quite a few requirements, so would you say that no matter your concentration, your major resembles a liberal arts education?
