Desktop or Laptop?

What should incoming freshmen bring? I know a laptop will be more practical when taking notes during lectures but isn't there also the risk of losing it or getting it stolen since you won't be home or in posession of it 24/7?

Also, any other items that current students or incoming freshmen recommend bringing?

if your worried about getting your laptop stolen you can buy a lock for it. The locks are not very expensive and can be bought at any computer or office store.

Laptops are definitely great if you like to take notes using them. Just be sure that you don't forget it in a class or in the library.

i plan on bringing mine home on vacations, which is yet another added bonus to having a laptop. which is why im getting one

i am getting a new laptop this summer as well.
but is it dangerous to leave it in your dorm?
assuming your roommate would dare to touch it, but would thiefs easily get access into ur room?

wat better apple or other laptop brands

If you're worried about theft, there are a few precautions you can take, in increasing cost:

Get a lock, and lock it to your desk

Get a STOP plate

Get insurance

In most cases, a combination of those three will more than cover you.

i heard locking it to your bedpost is a lil better, but watever works or makes the thief hesitate should do the trick.

I would definitely get a laptop, there's free wifi all over the place and the library is open 24 hours, with wifi. I also would get an apple because they are way more practical and student friendly. If you're in the design program also, they use apples. If you're in the interior deisgn they use mostly windows. It also just depends on preference of what you are used to.

I think this is a no brainer. Get a wide screen laptop with a standard keyboard including number pad on right side, e.g. HP Pavilion zd8000, which you can get at Fry's for $1100. The screen quality is spectacular. It's like having the best quality desktop, but you can take it with you.

Lock it to a table or something wherever you go though, because everybody is going to be drooling to get it.
