Development Sociology (CALS) Admission

How competitive is the Development Sociology major? I heard CALS applicants are admitted by the major they indicated and that some majors are more competitive than others. Anyone know how competitive (relatively) the development sociology major is? I have experience in the field--I did research in Ecuador for a month with a professor from UNC. will they like that? Thanks!

bump…anyone? Or if you know anything at all about the admissions process in CALS?

I don’t know if it is any more or less competitive than other CALS majors, but my daughter was accepted ED into the major with a 2170 SAT, 96 UW average in all AP’s/honors, strong EC’s and recommendations and strong essays. Like you, she had international experience (a program in Malawi through the University of Rochester.) When we briefly spoke to the adcom at the CALS visit, she said they were looking for people who showed a commitment to social issues. I’m sure they’re looking for people who really show their commitment to the major, particularly in the CALS essay. Sorry I can’t be of more help!

no problem, that definitely helps and congrats on your daughter!
