Yes, how does College Confidential pick these schools?

Even though I am a prospective Dickinson parent and think it is a first-rate school, I understand why it’s not on CC’s “Top” list. It may deserve to have a national reputation, but unfortunately it doesn’t. Here on the west coast, when you say Vassar or Amherst or Oberlin, educated people smile and nod and know the name. Dickinson, not so much.

It’s clearly moving up the ranks-- more applicants every year, harder to get into, more acclaim for some of its features, better graduate placement in grad schools-- but it just doesn’t have that national name recognition. And with that CC “top” list, it’s really just a popularity contest.

"…how does College Confidential pick these schools? "
I think they basically took them from the US News rankings from around the year they put up the website. And they don’t seem too eager to make changes.

I am a parent of a junior who LOVES Dickinson and is getting an excellent education there. That said, I agree with r4emb. Dickinson was ranked 47 last year in USNWR’s list, I believe, so it isn’t just because they took the rankings from several years ago (they only go about 30 deep on the list on CC). We live in the Midwest, and very few people have heard of it unless they are from the East coast (to be fair, they also have not heard of many of the colleges that do get “front page” from CC, like Harvey Mudd).

I do not find this a concern at all… D got a fabulous internship in DC this semester using Dickinson connections and her great grades there, and is targeting an even better one for the summer (waiting to hear). Where the college is listed on CC is a little like worrying too much about the USNWR rankings, I think :)

I am applying dickinson’s EA. People said D has lots of professors who graduated from top universities like Havard and Yale. Is that right? That’s really important for me, if anyone knows the answer, plz reply.

All you have to do is Google “dickinson college faculty” to come to a spot with a link to the info.

[Dickinson College - Faculty List](http://www.dickinson.edu/academics/Faculty-List/)

There are a pretty good number of HYPS-type PhD profs at Dickinson, but by no means most of them. My D has been very happy with the quality of her professors – I can’t really remember her complaining about any of them. She occasionally complains about an annoying student or two. But not about her professors.

Thx !u r a really good parent. My dad can never help me in choosing schools. …
