And I think it really needs to be an individual choice. Mine is naturally academic and although colleges tend to be overpriced, for him, it makes sense. This can help him transition towards his dream, stretch his mind intellectually, and start getting ready for the real world. We’re also hoping to have a study abroad semester or maybe even study in Europe for part of the degree. Kid is fascinated by Italy and having some time there would be amazing and an irreplaceable experience. London is also on the list due its theatre strength. For other kids, starting right out in NYC or LA or going to a performance school may make the most sense. And some kids can be strong willed so they may need to LA or NYC and fall flat on their face to truly learn that’s not the best immediate route for them. hard to do as a parent but for some, it may make sense. My kid has friends who are going straight to trade school in different fields, love what they are planning to do, and for them, that’s the best route and makes tons of sense. Other friends are going straight to a 4 year school while some are at CC’s to keep costs down. and so my point is, figure out what makes the most sense for your kid, and come up with a game plan to make that happen whether it be in acting or some other field.
