Did everyone have a Perfect GPA?

Hello to all of you,

I was curious, for current students/alumni/or whoever else is reading this. Does everyone who gets into Princeton, or any other highly selective school for that matter, have a high school GPA of a 4.0? Is it be possible to get into Princeton with B's on your transcript in conjunction with a hook, good test scores, extracurriculars, and essays? Thanks for your input!

P.S When I say Perfect GPA, I don't mean a 3.9-3.8, but a bit lower (3.6-3.5ish)

Two Things,

Rice is not Princeton
A 3.5 is not a perfect GPA. If you have below a 3.5 from a non-elite school (Like a respected one that rice knows) its going to be tough, but ECs and essays do matter too

Did you mean to post this on the Princeton forum?

ok, im asking about RICE not princeton
will a 3.5 GPA that has great improvement from freshman to junior year and at least a 2100 SATS have any shot of getting in?

It’s possible, but unlikely. A 3.5 is pretty low in comparison to other applicants, but the upward trend will help. If the rest of your application is extremely strong, then you might have a shot despite the GPA, but I wouldn’t count on it.

What is your class rank?

there are about 800 people in my grade, and so i am in the top 50th percentile (i know its not good compared to other rice applicants, but my school is one of the best in New York City and very competitive so i am hoping they will be a little lenient in that area.)
i am currently a junior and taking 3 aps. and will be taking more senior year

It really depends on who else applies from your school. If you have a hook, your EC’s and essays are good etc. you may be able to get in. It will be very hard though as there are 400 people ranked ahead of you.

fredddd - Definitely talk with your guidance counselors as they can provide a better assessment by knowing all of the components of your application. They will also know their admission histories of their graduates with schools like Rice. The middle 50% of acceptances to Rice had SAT scores of 1350 to 1500 and you seem to be competitive with that metric. Remember that Rice has a yield of been between 35% to 40%, so your GPA and class rank (you did state that you were in the top 50th percentile, not that you were at the 50th percentile) do not mean an automatic rejection.
