Did I just ruin my chances? REAL version

So I tried posting this before but I was distracted and typed in the wrong grades, so this is the right post.

It is my junior year and my grades went down. I had a A in APUSH, now i've got a B. I had an A- in English, now I have an B+. I've had an A in average level math and now I have an A-. My other classes are fine.

I know the grades aren't outright bad, but they are the worst I've done in the respective subjects, so I'm afraid I'm looking at a downward spiral, especially for Ivies and stuff like that. Anyone else been in a similar situation/known peopple in similar situations?

its fine. don't worry about it.

No you didn't ruin your chances, although the downward trend isn't exactly helpful, I suppose.

Chill. Go to Africa and volunteer. Write 3 books and publish. Take a course in China. W/e.

You forgot to mention cure cancer.

Or bridge the Nile by yourself and reconcile centuries-old tribal feuds.

Or clam fart.

yeah i think you are screwed. no way are you getting into college with a couple of B's. just kill yourself right now.. its obvious that you are too stupid to succeed with a couple of b's.

^ LOL @ Agent of Sense - did you also read the thread in which the OP put "clam fart" as one of his activities on his college app? XD

As for aranyria - I think you're just fine. As long as you have good EC's, SAT scores, and write stellar essays, you will have a great shot at all schools you apply to.

Haha, yeah, that was hilarious! Funniest thread ever!!!

Also, to the OP, YOU ARE FINE! Just continue working hard, get good SAT scores, practice good ECs, such as clam-farting, and write essays that are personal and "stellar." Furthermore, I suggest you research colleges that are a fit for you because your comment, "especially for Ivies and stuff like that," indicates you haven't...all the Ivies are not the same.

Most important of all, be OPTOMISTIC!

optimistic?

Top school want top grades. I suggest you look at less selective colleges.

My GPA overall is good (5.5/5 weighted)... this is the first solid B I've gotten in high school.

Sooooo I sense a lot of sarcasm here. I don't just go on this site and type useless posts though...this is pretty important to me. I was hoping for some real answers from people who have something behind what they are saying (someone else been in the same situation, knows a college counselor or better yet, an admissions officer, etc.). Honestly, I don't post here all the time, though I do help people out a lot, so I'd like some help myself this once.

Well, the root of our sarcasm originates from your assumption that an A to B indicates a downward spiral. Perhaps if the pattern was from an A to a B, then to a C, then you have basis for such implication. If you feel that you will continue to earn lower grades, then I suggest seeking help from a teacher, tutor, review book, etc. Continue working hard for your high marks and stop being pessimistic. Furthermore, my previous advice about researching colleges that fit your interests will help to know the range of academic rigor and achievement you need for admittance.

This thread has no purpose. what's done is done.

study harder and enjoy life

Agent of Sense, thank you--that was helpful. It is sometimes difficult to determine to what extent sarcasm is based on truth, especially when one is not a 3rd party observer.

jmanco49, the purpose of the thread is to have some idea where i should be sending out applications--so I don't either aim too high and get rejected or aim too low and wonder at what might have been.

Yeah, I can't recommend any specific schools, even with more details, because I don't have a general knowledge of several colleges that several helpful CC poster have. Perhaps you may want to post with your stats, ECs, etc...but take the advice with a grain of salt.

O yeah, i did a What Are My Chances thread.

I don't believe that anyone here can really give you an accurate answer. It depends on how these grades effected your GPA and your class rank.

didn't kill my GPA--I now have a 5.45/5 weighted. Our school doesn't class rank.

OP, I think if you can keep your grades up you senior year, a few Bs this past semester are not going to kill your chances.

BTW, the "clam fartist" claims he got in:
