I attended Boise State University in Idaho for a year and a half. I just transferred to Santa Barbara City College this semester. I am interested in transferring to UCSB in the near future, and I'm wondering which GPA they will look at when I apply. Will they look at whatever GPA I build at SBCC? I have heard that since I transferred schools, I will get credit for classes taken at Boise State, but UCSB will only view the GPA that I get from SBCC. So did I get a fresh start by transferring to SBCC?

They take everything into account.

They count both.

Your GPA won’t carry over to SBCC, so at that school you’ll have a fresh GPA, but you’ll need to submit all grades/transcripts and they’ll calculate your overall GPA. You’ll get a shiny new GPA after you transfer to UCSB, as well.

When you apply to UCSB, your GPA will be calculated from all transferable courses you take at SBCC (transferable courses can be found on assist.org) and all transferable courses you have completed at Boise State(which courses are transferable is determined by admissions evaluators when your application is being reviewed).

a bit of a tangent, but given that you are at SBCC you should work with their transfer academy. They have counselors that are familiar with the UCSB rules, and as part of the program you can even take a class each quarter at UCSB. Also see if you will qualify for TAG which guarantees admission to UCSB.

BTW by “near future” I hope you don’t mean any date sooner than Sept 2015 since the deadline for this upcoming Fall term at UCSB has long passed, and they only accept applications to enter in the Fall.

I will be attending SBCC for one more year after this, so I have a ways to go. Hopefully I can get in! Thanks to everyone for the help!
