Did the UC aPPLICATION SITE, JUST CRASH?

Thanks ayymeer!

And seriously… The application even say’s “Don’t wait until the last minute to submit your application!”

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but there is also a reason why they label your application with what date and time you submitted it…

Thank goodness I don’t wanna go to Berkeley (my major is taught without soul there, apparently), although I will be applying in case something goes horribly wrong here in San Diego. In CalBerks’s defense, I understand why many people would need several weeks to finish up the prompts.

As for myself, I’ve been a little lazy perhaps. But when I looked at the 2 essay prompts, I knew what I’d be writing about. There’s really not much easier than writing about what you most like talking about (yourself). The need to be terse and confine them to 1,000 words isn’t a problem for me either, I’m good at doing that. Honestly, I think if you really like your major and give your life even some though, the essays are pretty simple. If anything, the extra time could be used for feedback. In that sense, then yes I should have started a couple of weeks ago.

I completely agree Salmos, but the actual writing of the prompts took about an hour. It was the editing, reading for clarity and conciseness, and final wrap up’s that took most of the time. I could write you some decent essay’s regarding those two prompts right now, but I could write you excellent essay’s if you gave me some time to proof read and let it sit for a bit.

But once again, to each their own!

For sure, Berks. As for myself, the clarity and conciseness are usually there without much effort. Blame my major.

Honestly, let me tell ya… I’d rather go to UCSD or UCI over Berkeley or UCLA. BUT it’s only because of the way my major is taught in the top 2 UC’s. I’m majoring in philosophy (wanna get elementary teaching credentials after) and the analytical departments in Cal & UCLA are more for students who are looking to get into grad school in analytical philosophy.

So I’m okay for my purposes. For those who will take nothing other than Berkeley, I agree completely. Spend weeks on those prompts.

Well said Salmos! I know how you Philosophy majors write, so I am definitely not saying anything haha

And I’ve been dreaming about UC Berkeley since 2008 so naturally a lot is riding on this application. I didn’t want to take any chances!

that seem a bit over the top calberks. people have different way of handling their priority and etc shouldn’t be a problem though. had a friend get in to both ucla and ucb for comp sci and he was a pretty relaxing guy with a 3.7 but he was king of procrastination didn’t turn it in til 4 hours before due time.

CalBerk,

You are somewhat correct regarding the promptness of UC APPS correlating to Berkeley material/acceptance. But, I have seen a variety of people get into CAL even though their UC apps were turned in near the deadline and are doing well. You are also not calculating that some people turn in their application last minute just for anxiety purposes (want to make sure its perfect).

I’m directing my comments to the people who have not even started their essays…

It’s not a big deal if you want to turn it in late, that’s your call and I’m not going to nitpick that at all. But people who haven’t even started their essays?? I fear for your academic career once you get out of community college.

My best friend put it well: “When I transferred to UCLA from my CC, it was like going from slow pitch softball to the MLB.”

Well good luck to everyone with the application process and I hope everyone gets into their school of choice. I remember how worried I was over the ordeal and completed my essay weeks before the app deadline. There was just no way I was going to wait until the last minute to hit the send button and risk the site crashing, my comp freezing, etc.

@Calberks, your best friend did in fact put it well lol.

There are people who still didn’t even start their essays?!?! WHAT?!! It would be understandable if they are one of those who can easily write an essay within 1-hour.

Hey CalBerks,

I see where you are coming from. But you should really mind your own business. Everyone is different- different learning style, different perspectives, everything. I think you shouldn’t discourage someone from wanting to pursue a Berkeley education just because they are procrastinating. You don’t know who Sparkyboy is. You have no idea of what type of individual he is. Before you slam someone down and tell them they won’t make it at Berkeley, think about the times you’ve procrastinated and waited till the last second to work on something; everyone does it. I’m not saying procrastinating all the time, but we’ve at least done it once in our lives, right? Bottom line, you should have a little more respect for people, because without a sense of RESPECT, you WILL NOT SURVIVE AT UC BERKELEY YOURSELF. Cheers! :)

lol guys. But overall, i think procrastinate over something that will effect your future is bad. I mean that is your future, at least prepare first.

However, some people are confident that they can get in, so they can just do it at the last mins.

Calberks came off a bit mean in his first post here but it’s clear that he means well. He’s passionate about UC Berkeley and is probably just feeling anxious about the entire transfer situation.

I wish everyone in here success with their application.

Well, it was midnight and I ended up ranting too much unnecessary stuff, so I apologized if I offended you, CalBerk, or anyone reading my posts  Like Rockoz said, I hoped everyone will succeed with your own application and especially the PS. Peace :D

@joxygirl But, you wouldn’t type up a resume for a job that you really wanted the hour before turning your application/your interview would you? The UC app is like a resume. The average serious applicant would put time in his application rather than fill it out 3 days or the night before it is due.

Of course, there are those who can fill out the app and write their personal statements perfectly in one sitting. But, those are extraordinary cases.

In the end, I procrastinate, you procrastinate, we all procrastinate.

Talking in general here: Do what you want to do with your UC app. If you get into Cal, UCLA, or UCSD after spending only a day on your UC app, then by all means, use your bragging rights. If not, well, don’t say we didn’t tell you so lol.

I will respond to JoxyGirl and then I’m done with this thread because I respect everyone here and wish everyone nothing but the best!

I do try to mind my own business, but I think it’s only fair that people hear some criticism when it comes to things like this. I feel as though I have life lessons that also support my point of view, and I feel like the College Confidential board was placed here for that very reason: To help all of us become more attractive and marketable students.

If you haven’t started your essay’s yet, my original statement still stands: PERSONALLY, I do not agree with what you are doing and I find it be an odd choice. Are you a terrible person? No. Are you somebody that I think needs a different point of view? Yes. For that reason, I had to speak up.

In the end, I do apologize again if I came off a bit to harsh. But remember, I’m not the judge… Life is.

@joxygirl, well said! You go girl! I have both of my personal statements ready, and the 2nd one is good to go… I’m just not so sure about the 1st one. bleh.

@Seungjoolee

Thankss!!! Girl power baby! :)

Oh and CalBerks. . . . MY FIRST CHOICE IS BERKELEY AS WELL…I’ll be hearing from you in March/April. . . you know what I’m referring to. ;)

No, you won’t. I can’t stand the sexist undertone of your response. This isn’t some competition between genders, you and me, or anyone else in this thread.

okay dont rip my head off or anything but my essays sucked and i sure as hell didnt spend enough time on them… but i thought only a few uc’s read the personal statement like irvine and ucla and berkely? and out of those im only applying to irvine. should i be worried? im tagged to ucsc and i’ll have about a 3.2 after fall and my major is deff not impacted.
