Did you commit to your school without visiting?

Because my wonderful mother and father don't care to allow me to visit the colleges I have been accepted to, I am basically forced to blindly choose where I will go to school. Has this ever happened to any of you? Is it absolutely crucial that I visit? (It probably is). And how can I convince them?? Thanks.

Where are you thinking of going? I’d do everything possible to try to visit.

Yeah I agree… Unfortunately a lot of schools I’ve gotten into are in the Midwest, which would be difficult to visit. But being from southern California, I feel as though it’s crucial to go and take a look since apparently it’s much different and I might even hate it.

2 of them are in my home state though so those shouldn’t be a challenge, but they’re back-ups and I’d much rather not attend them. A couple of others are in Oregon, Arizona, etc… bordering states.

You really need to get a feel for the school you are going to be spending the next 2-4 years at. If you for sure can’t, at least take a virtual tour, look at pictures, and view some school videos on youtube.

Absolutely not! I feel that you should visit at least once, and do an overnight if you can so you can really get a feel for the school. I wouldn’t have picked my school had I not done that…and I love my school!

Yes. I never visited my school and I turned out fine. However, I would suggest that you visit the schools on your short list. Generally speaking, getting a feel of the campus and interacting with the current students there is a good litmus test of how your experience at the school might turn out.
