<p>I'm going to be doing a college fair soon and I just wondered if any students out there have any advice. I'm a parent doing it for my son's college - it's pretty far away from here and a LAC. </p>

<p>Well I can tell you what doesn't work.
The representative from Tufts at one of the college fairs I went to was, for lack of a better word, a total snob. Complete with the nose in the air, and eye rolling anytime anyone asked a question. Talk about a turn off</p>
<p>So I guess what I'm trying to say is be friendly. I was extremely impressed with the reps that took the time to offer information, expanding on the very simple questions I asked. It only took them maybe 30 extra seconds. Also a friendly smile, rather than an "I don't want to be here but I have to look good" smile goes a long way. A handshake leaves a better impression too</p>
<p>Yeah, I've had similar experiences, especially with LACs at college fairs. Don't wait to see SAT scores or something before perking up and engaging in conversation (as an alum did with me once... I apparently didn't "look" smart enough?) Then again, it doesn't sound like a mistake you'd make, since you clearly want to represent your son's school positively. I guess I'd also say, don't be too surprised when people haven't heard of the school, even if it's a top LAC. Even the most informed and intelligent high school students can be pretty ignorant when it comes to the college process.</p>
