maybe he shouldn't have written that, but he's probably just upset like the rest of us.

Wait, MC, you were rejected?
Sorry to hear.
Go NYU!

A lot of people are upset. I've been on here for maybe 5 decision days (ED and RD) and have never seen anything so arrogant. You've got to be off the wall to even entertain thoughts such as that.

Perhaps he really is a superb writer?
Don't be so quick to judge.

It takes a certain amount of arrogance, or sense of self-entitlement, anyway, to be able to apply to and ultimately attend a high caliber school.

"I'm frankly grad people like this get rejected. I'm glad the adcoms can spot a social misfit"

I've heard this guy talk for the last year and frankly I'm sick of his ********... I've kept quite for all this time, but this is enough

Guys... everyone here is upset alright? Ppl make bad decisions when stressed the heck out and felt that they got a big a$s blow to their self-esteem (yes, even if you were expecting it)

THEN IF THATS THE CASE... the last thing anyone wants is to be bashed again by some guy who has already graduated and spends his time making fun of applicants online...

He does have some useful information though...

Columbia2002 is hilarious. Or pathetic. Both?

He didn't say he's a mere "superb writer." He said he's "one of the most talented writers they could ever encounter." That takes some kahunas.

Not really. It's common sense. You do well in high school and on your SATs, and you apply to good schools.

What does it mean to keep "quite"?

That's not a bad decision. That reveals what type of person he is. His anger at being rejected caused the cat to come out of the bag. No level-headed 17 or 18 year old could possibly think that he's "one of the most talented writers [Columbia] could ever encounter."

It's common sense that Firebird44 meant "quiet." No need to take cheap shots at typos...

Yes, I was rejected. Go NYU!

wow. that columbia2002 guy is harsh...
I just hope not all columb-ians are like that...

I mean, he's got useful stuff, but he's a notch arrogant... (no offense, that's just your character and you probably can't help it anyways.)

ROFL colombia2002 why would you call somebody a social misfit when you have the time to make like 3000 posts, when you're already in a college known for night life.

Anyways my friends don't worry about it, my brother got rejected when he applied a few years ago, but then he graduated with honors from NYU and just finished graduate work at good ol Columbia. Now he's working for Google so don't sweat it guys.

I myself am a Penn prospective and it sucks that I have to wait another four days lmao.

a) C2k2 is an alum. I'm of a more recent vintage.

b) If you think Columbia is a "college known for its night life"... well, I'll leave it at that.

As for C2k2's comment... there are more than enough people at Columbia who think they're god's gift to earth. But they're at all schools (or at least I tell myself that)

As for those of you who didn't get good news today, I feel your pain. I got the "Sorry, I just don't feel the same way about you" letter when I was applying. I knew I had taken a long shot in the dark, but I'd gotten my hopes up. The next day (Saturday) I found some, uh, constructive outlets :)

In about a month, once RD applications are gone, you'll be back to living your life, and the admissions process will be just a flicker in the back of your mind as you deal with Senior year of high school.

Good luck with the rest of your apps, everything will work out fine (it did for me!)

The beauty of Columbia is that you get a little bit of everything. Columbians aren't a bunch of conformists, so you get a lot of people who are confident enough to express their views / be different / etc.

It says I joined in April 2005. That's 32 months. About 100 posts a month. So about 3 posts a day. My average post is about 3-5 sentences, so that's hardly a huge source of time.

I'm not "already in college." I finished in 02.

guys Ibanez's post was in fact pretty presumptious and arrogant, i'm sure he/she was pssed off about the rejection, but unfortunately C2002 is right, and very much allowed to be happy that Ibanez was rejected, it's no big deal, C2002 is harsh like that, he tells it as he sees it, don't get all worked up about it. he, like me, sends all of you best wishes, let the arguement die s'il vous plait.

so your 27, done with college and your on CC? thats........................ :)

I really don't want to get into this but...

If he really was one of the best writers Columbia had/has ever seen, wouldn't he have won some writing awards or have been published in a national periodical? If the latter was true, I find it odd that he was rejected...

I consider myself an excellent writer, but I know in comparison with Columbia students, I'm probably only slightly above average, if that.

Ibanez indeed is a talented writer. A man whose literary dexterity reveals all of our efforts as no more than feeble sputterings of idle minds. Allow me to display Exhibit A:

Yes, my friends, we will never encounter his like again.
