Didn't Pass AP Exam..What to do?

Hi, I recently got a 2 on my AP Research exam and I’m currently a senior. I don’t know what to do. Should I report this score in my transcript or should I cancel my score with the College Board. Would it seem weird/dishonest if colleges see that I have the course in my transcript but don’t see a reported AP grade?

Don’t report the score on your application.

No. Reporting AP scores is optional. Now, an AO may look at your transcript, see the course, and assume you failed the exam. But you did. So your options are to say nothing and let them assume, or report it so they will know for sure.

The good news is that AP scores carry little, if any, weight in the admissions process.

some kids take AP classes and not the exam as well. So; Admin doesnt know.

No need to report. My son got a 2 on his physics AP test (just being a jerk and not taking it seriously) and never even took the calc AB test. No one cared he didn’t report. (by the way he got a A in physics 1 in college and has an A in physics 2 so far). Don’t sweat it!

Fret not…colleges are much more concerned about your grades in those classes as opposed to the AP tests.

Why is that?

  1. Doing well in a class shows you can learn over the year and work hard over a period of time. That is what they want in college.
  2. Not all HS have many APs.
  3. Many people take AP tests senior year which is too late for admissions

For example, Stanford says:
Students currently enrolled in AP courses are not required to submit AP scores as part of our admission process. AP scores that are reported are acknowledged but rarely play a significant role in the evaluation of an application. Grades earned over the course of a term, or a year, and evaluations from instructors who can comment on classroom engagement provide us with the most detailed insight into a student’s readiness for the academic rigors of Stanford.

Where does this leave you?

  1. It tells you that you cannot place out of those classes in college…you will need to take them in college like many many other people do.
  2. Do not self-report your scores
