Hello CC community!
So I’m a junior accounting major and have been conflicted with switching for sometime now. The reason I chose it was because I had yet to have any direction or passion in life when I started college. My father pushed me towards business and to become a CPA. I was sold on the belief that I would have job security and it would be a lucrative career, but I never had much of a passion or aptitude with the numbers aspects of business and it’s taken me potentially retaking 2 relevant courses I might bomb this semester and my professors advising me to look into new careers for me to finally make the change (which my family doesn’t know I plan on doing yet).
I originally wanted to be in the health field, perhaps as a PT, OT, or pharmacist, but those seem out of sight at this point. In lieu of the health issues my family has had and being in and out of hospitals and clinics the past couple years, I’ve taken an interest in nutrition, dietetics, and public health. I’ve done a lot of research and looking to shadow or talk to someone before I officially choose it, but I think being an RD would be right for me. The research I’ve done though lead me to believe it’s not a promising or very respected career (compared to other health fields) at all. Internships are necessary but hard to come by and location can be a deciding factor, etc. I’m super anxious about all of this, but I don’t know what else I want to do in school or for a career. I’m aware of the setbacks of switching this late and know some of my family won’t be on back me on this, but I need to hit the reset button on life right now and finally develop a niche in something… pursue a passion for once.
Is there anyone majoring in or knowledgeable of this field who can provide some insight and advice on what it’s like? What’s required? Was it the right choice for you?
