For the purposes of getting research experience (clinical or bench), does it matter if you do it through a formal internship, or if you do it through a credit "class" in which you work on research with a mentor? Does it matter if it's paid/unpaid in terms of how it "looks" on an application?

In HS for college apps I’m pretty sure it doesn’t make a difference. What’s more important is the outcome of the research. Of course, getting a nice stipend is never a bad thing ;). Unfortunately, I’m basically paying to do research this summer >.< stupid dorms.

In my school we have a for-credit class that basically teaches us research techniques, how to present, and give suggestions of programs/how to find a mentor. My school has an Intel semifinalist almost every year (we had a FINALIST this year :)). Don’t think I’m getting THAT far with it though lol.

The only exception to this I would say is it looks AMAZING if you go to a program like RSI which is SUPER selective.
