Difference between University of Montana and Montana State?

Long story short, I've decided to look into studying Audio Engineering/Technology, and seems like Montana State is one of the few schools out there that offers it. I originally had wanted to apply to University of Montana, but I waited too long that the deadline has passed. So now, I am looking at MSU-Bozeman..what's the difference between these 2 schools? In terms of the surrounding area, student body, academics, etc..I heard Bozeman is quite beautiful and good for skiing...are there any significant difference between the two institutions at all?

Both towns are nice with good access to all sorts of outdoors stuff. Bozeman is a little smaller but big enough for a college town. UM is more liberal and has a large granola contingent while MSU is more engineering and business types. If MSU has what you want it's fine enough as a place and college. Beautiful country too.

I know of someone who goes here who loves not only the school but also the skiing.

MSU is the better school for engineering. barrons is pretty much spot-on with his assessment.

I prefer Bozeman, even though it's smaller than Missoula.

Bozeman is quite charming. Outdoor activities are amazing throughout western Montana.

I like Missoula, so I'd personally choose UM.

Any of you guys know anything about Carroll College? Sorry for the hi-jack

Anyone know of pros/cons between the two schools as it pertains to forestry/wildlife biology/natural resources/conservation (or, something along those lines) fields of study…as well as theatre/drama?
Thanks.
