Different Info then Custodial Parent

My father is my custodial parent according to FAFSA terms (Joint-custody legally). However since we moved my freshman year, I never bothered to update my address on my driver's license, since I rarely if ever drive and it would cost money.

So recently I was preparing to fill out FAFSA when I realized it may seem odd we have different addresses. Do I need to update that or is it not a big deal? I just don't want anything happening that could constitute a fraud case.

Pop by the DMV, shell out the money for a license with the correct address. Then you will have an up-to-date federally recognized ID, reduce chances of problems with the cops if you would have a traffic issue, and you won’t worry about your address not matching your parent’s.

Being the custodial parent means that the student (you) lived with your father more than your mother for the 12 months before filing FAFSA. I don’t think it makes any differnce that you have different addresses. Or you can just use your father’s address as yours. My kids use our address, their own address, or whatever address for various reasons as they have hopped around a lot and for various reasons needed things to be sent to particular places. With joint custody in the picture this sort of thing isn’t unusual.
