When I applied for University of Washington and California State University Long Beach I put down my mom’s maiden name for it was stated on her passport. But as I am trying to put down the information on tax returns for FAFSA, It came to my attention that it has her married last name on it. Will that be a problem when it comes to my provisional acceptance for Cal State? If so, is there a way to remedy that mistake?
I don’t think it will be an issue. If you’re concerned, contact admissions and ask whether you should change her name to a hyphenated one.
No. It does not matter. It may trigger a question is all if they verify? Is her married name also your last name? If so, don’t worry about it at all.
I am Miss “birth name” legally, but half my stuff still comes as Mrs. “S’s last name”. It takes eons to fix everything so I stopped trying!
If her legal name is married name, she’ll just change when she renews her passport. It’s more of an issue or pain for her than for FA:)
Good luck!
