Difficult Choice

Hi, i'm currently a high school junior, and I have chosen my classes so that it "fit" my choice to become a corporate lawyer. However, even though it is early to decide, im having second doubts about whether i want to become a lawyer or not
On one hand, i can earn a decent amount right off as a lawyer, and i find a knowledge of law interesting
On the other hand, i want to help people, though i'm not extremely patient, and sometimes i feel like i want to be a doctor.
any suggestions?

You might want to do some more research on law. Very few people actually end up making the big bucks as lawyers. You basically have to come from one of the top three schools or be in the top 10% of your class at a top 20 school. Outside of that your chances are pretty slim. Law schools graduate tons of new lawyers every year. The median salary for lawyers is 60,000, but a lot of law school grads don't even end up being lawyers. I know quite a few people who graduated from law school and couldn't find anything, then when they tried to find work outside of law people assumed something was wrong with them.

So, if your interest in law is based on what you think you will be earning, take another look.

By the way, it actually is possible for a lawyer to help people. Working as an advocate for battered women and children and victims of physical and sexual assault could be very gratifying. Think about it.

huh? "you basically have to graduate from the top three schools?" no that is patently false.

and there are more ways to help people than the obvious... doctor and helping battered women are two of an infinite ways. a law degree is an eminently useful tool

There are many different types of law, there might even be one that would help you to satisfy your Medical Doctor side of you; i.e. malpractice law.

To get a high paying job in corporate law? It's very true. Go to any of the big business law firm's websites and look at their associates. Find me even one that didn't graduate from a top 20 school. Heck, find me one who didn't graduate from a top 5 school.

PoshGirl is both right and wrong.

It's called T14, which is the top 14 law schools. If you can't get into one of them, it's not worth going. After getting into a T14, it depends on your class rank. Top 10% at #12 for example, can be just as good as top 25% at #3.

Again, if you can't get into a T14 don't bother going unless you get like full aid or something. I would only go to Georgetown, for example, with full aid.

I dunno, my step-brother wound up going to a law school that I've never heard of outside of him going there, yet he's been making more than I pretty much ever hope to with a PhD in engineering.

what are the T14?
Edit: found them
If i do go into corporate law, is it a good idea to go to a school with a good business undergraduate? and should i get an MBA?
