Dilemma

After a good bunch of college visits, I’ve decided that Amherst is my top choice school. It’s the only one that really clicked with me, and the only one where I said outright, “I want to go here.”

However, I liked a lot of other schools I visited very much…Vassar, Haverford, Brown, Harvard…some harder to get into than Amherst, some easier.

Here is my problem: the only thing I worry about at Amherst is the preppy/jock factor, which I feel is less prevalent at Haverford, closer to nonexistent at Vassar, and while it’s present at Brown and Harvard, those are bigger schools with more options.

Should I go with my gut and apply ED to Amherst? Or should I spend my fall doing overnight visits at my top choices to make sure Amherst fits me better than, say, Vassar, or that perhaps I should shoot for Brown or Harvard?

Any thoughts/advice/suggestions/questions?

Thanks

go for amherst

you're gonna find every type of person anywhere, and it depends on who you want to hang out with and who you want to call a friend... if you want to be with less "preppy" people, there will definitely be people like that that you'll find anywhere. go with what you like best, not based on the type of people you might see on that certain day.

last time i checked, ED apps are due nov 1st, you can still make more visits before you apply, although it does seem like you should apply ED to Amherst.

I'd say err on the side of caution because it is 4 years and it's not cheap. Better to explore and put doubts aside imho

if you have doubts, don't apply ED anywhere

Finances not an issue if your family is very rich or very poor.

If finances are not an issue, then ED is a definite option. One can turn down an ED offer based on finances, but it is kind of a bummer.

I'd apply ED even if I was unsure about which of several colleges I liked best - I figure I'd always be unsure.
