Can anyone tell me how the dining plan at GW works? From what I can tell, there are no traditional dining halls -- just a lot of fast food restaurants. Is it possible to eat healthfully if all you've got to choose from are wendy's, dunkin donuts and chic filet?

There are dozens of places that take GWorld, and there is one traditional dining hall. Everything from $30/person restaurants to fast food places are on GWorld. GW probably has more dining options than just about any campus in the country. There is also a Trader Joes & Whole Foods, but neither is on GWorld at the moment.

They are revising the plan this year, however. They are forcing freshmen and sophomores to spend a certain amount of money on Sodexho-owned establishments, which basically means that students will be forced to spend a percentage of their GWorld eating garbage. They also removed popular places like Einstein's Bagels and replaced them with Sodexho Bagelry.

The info we got said we need to buy $3400 of colonial cash and some good portion of that has to go to on-campus establishments. Hopefully, there will be some healthy choices. I'm not too thrilled, though, with the idea of my d. eating at a $30/person restaurant on a regular basis.

My daughter usually spent $6 - $10 on lunch and dinner last year. Often had something for breakfast in her dorm room. So there's no need to spend $30 on a restaurant. Things like Starbuck's coffees in between meals is what can burn up your money if you don't watch out.
