I'm a current Junior Piano major student. I'm considering about get a further degree after finish my B.M degree. My question is whether I should go for a diploma or a master degree? I know diploma is more focus on performing skill while the master degree is more comprehensive. Please share your opinion or experience with me. Really appreciate.

Do you have any plans to teach at the university level?

Hey Bartokrules, I do have thought about teaching at university level, but I prefer playing if I have chance. Any suggestion?

Vincson, I have gone back to my original user name of Compdad from Bartokrules. It seems that an MM is more useful if seeking teaching positions (a DMA is even better). Those who teach at the university level with a Diploma usually have had a carrer already in performance. This is not an absolute. Take a look at the faculty listings for the level of programs you would possibly be interested in teaching. This should provide some insight into the best approach regarding teaching. I can’t give advice as to whether an MM or Diploma would be better for a performance career.

Compadad, appreciate your opinion. I think I should do more research about that. Thank you again.
