Disability services at Washington University

D is strongly considering applying to Wash U ED. Can a WU parent tell me about disability services at WU for kids with LD like ADD.? How accommodating are they of accommodations (eg., time-and-a-half)? How helpful are they with time management issues, etc? The office is run by an attorney rather than a psychologist, which concerns me. Should I be concerned about how helpful this office will be?

Our D also has a LD and would also like to apply to Wash U ED. When we went on their Cornerstone website, we found short videos of students discussing their accommodations but they dated back to 2008 with the most recent from 2011 if we recall correctly. We would welcome feedback from current Wash U students and parents in terms of their experience with professors, Cornerstone, and the overall culture regarding students with disabilities. What is mid-term or finals week like at Wash U for students who need extra time in a quiet setting?

Former student here – several of my friends used extended time at Cornerstone and I never heard any complaints from them.

Current student at Wash U. I do not have ADD but I have auditory processing issues so I get accommodations. Cornerstone is the best. They are the reason I came to Wash U – whereas every other school made a big deal about extra time, recording lectures, etc., their attitude was basically one of, we are here to help you succeed no matter how it is you learn. Even for non-registered students they offer tons of resources, from free tutoring to seminars.
