Discriminated against for being an atheist?

Hello, I'm currently a senior living in South Florida. I am applying to FSU, UF, UCF, Tulane, and possibly NYU. I am the founder and president of my school's atheist/agnostic club. I'd just like to know if its safe to put it on my application because I have organized community service events, etc. Thanks.

Should not be discriminated against. However, I hope you did more community service than a once or twice a year cancer walk or a small fundraising effort.

You do have the option of describing the club as more than just a bunch of people who grouped based on atheism- did you discuss philosophy, current issues, or do something that goes beyond “We don’t believe?”

Thanks for your insight. I’ll definitely describe the clubs activities and principles. I’m just fearful because all of these schools I’m applying to are in the South, but colleges are starting to pride themselves on having great diversity, so could this possibly be a positive factor that sets me apart?

I don’t think the club’s purpose will hurt or help you.
