I'm debating whether or not to talk about my depression & anxiety disorder in my application in the "additional information" section. I wouldn't address it except for the fact that in junior year, second semester, my grades dropped tremendously because of it. I was a straight-A student and then stopped going to school and stopped doing homework because of my anxiety, so I got a mixture of A's, B'c, C's, and one D, depending on how much the teacher liked me and how much I actually showed up. I never finished the school year, I went to a mental hospital and finished the schoolwork there and transferred out for senior year. Do you think I should talk about it? I don't want to scare the schools away-- but I do want to address the grades issue.

never a good idea. just vaguely refer it as 'medical issues'

ok, thanks.

If it needs be brought up at all, have your guidance counselor write about it. If you address it, particularly if you said you got poor grades due to "medical issues", adcoms may think you are searching for excuses. Have your GC write how you left school due to "illness" that was unforeseen and unavoidable.

some more reading for you on this exact subject (disclosing mental illness issues in the application), albeit different illness.
