Dislocated worker

I thought if you were a dislocated worker then you automatically qualified for a 0 EFC. I was laid off in Dec. And now recieve unemployment. My EFC is 3991.

No. The dislocated worker is only part of the criteria. You still have to meet the AGI criteria (under $30k). All the dislocated worker criteria seems to do is make you eligible if you meet the AGI criteria but not the 1040A/EZ criteria.

Ok, thanks! I know I didnt make that much! lol

If the student's parent didn't make that much then you should qualify for the automatic 0. An independent student without a dependent other than a spouse does not qualify for the automatic 0.

I am an inedependant student with a spouse and a child. If i didnt make that much last year and a dislocated worker, should i get the 0?

Did you and your spouse between you make less than $30k AGI?

Yes, but i wont know for sure until we get our taxes done, but I am the only one that works, he is medically retired

Did you fill out the 2009-2010 FAFSA?

Yes, and i got an EFC of 3991

Well I'm surprised. All I can suggest is that you double check your answers. Especially the AGI (would have to be < $30k), the dislocated worker question (103), the question about whether you have a child that you provide more than 50% support for (question 53). My understanding is that, if you meet those criteria, the EFC s/b 0.
