Disney College Program- Thoughts?

Hey everyone. I will soon be deciding upon which school I will be attending for the next 4 years in just a couple weeks. I have heard of the Disney College Program, and am very interested. I have always wanted to be a Disney princess. Working in Disney as a performer or in any capacity would be a dream, but I was wondering if anyone could share their experience with this particular program? Would I be able to book a job as a student going into her freshmen year of college starting in August? I would love to hear your thoughts. Please help! Thanks.

Their website says: “College freshmen may apply during their first semester of school to participate during their second semester. The Disney College Program cannot serve as your first semester of school.”
But I do wonder how you could do the program and still be in a BFA program- not sure how that would work as usually the 4 years is so rigid in what you have to take when.

The only students we’ve known to do it, did it immediately after graduation. They also had to apply several times before being accepted. It is very competitive. You also don’t always get your first choice of assignment, i.e., performing. Do some more research about it. The students we know who have done it loved it, but it was a lot of work and even though they were BFA MTs, the were not assigned performer jobs. If you did it as a currently enrolled student, you would have to do it in the summer, I think. There are a lot of blogs devoted to the DCP, since many of the participants write about their experiences.

^Very true. The young people that I know who have done/are doing the program all wanted to be performers but none of them were placed as performers. They worked on the rides or concessions, etc. It is my understanding that it is very difficult to be placed as a performer.

I believe you have to audition to be a performer as well as interview for the DCP.

Yup, you do have to audition to be a performer. All the kids I know who auditioned were not placed as performers, but in some other position.

I know a young man who did it his first semester as a sophomore. He LOVED it, and he was working on the janitorial staff. But he’s kind of an exceptionally enthusiastic, ray of sunshine optimistic young man who has the most positive and upbeat outlook.

I did this YEARS ago but it was a great time. I worked in the hat shop in Frontierland and still remember it well. At that time all the students lived in trailers in one area near the park in Kissimee. It was a blast. I did get to know one of the performers and she loved it.
