Distinguished Scholarship

So I wasn't invited to Scholarship Day, but I was a recipient of the "Distinguished Scholarship" for $2500 a year renewing. Anyone else receive this or know anything about this?

I received it last year. It is a scholarship for instate students; its purpose is supposedly to keep high-achieving instate kids from choosing out of state universities. It worked for me haha; UNC is the best decision I’ve ever made.

I got it too, and I know two others from my school who did as well. I already chose UNC, but I was really excited about this. Made me even more excited. Does anyone know how many they give out a year?

Our son received one.

so, is it better to receive this or to be invited to scholarship day? i was wondering since i didn’t receive an invite…

This is the best you can get without going to scholarship day. I know from someone who went that 2500 a year is the lowest scholarship they give out there (she got it and was complaining that she didn’t get more…). Basically it’s a pretty sweet surprise for all of us smart in state kids who didn’t get invited to scholarship day if what tarheel151 said is true. I’m just happy to get any money at all. :)

Honestly, just be happy you received one. The vast majority of your peers will be here on no scholarship money at all.
