Diversifying the colleges I'm planning to apply to?

Right now, all I know is that I want to go into some sort of engineering/astronomical science course of study. Right now I only have three schools:

MIT (Obviously reach school)
University of Virginia (SAT right about there)
North Caroline State University (Backup)

Current statistics
4.8 weighted GPA
3.9 unweighted GPA

2160 SAT (As of January, retook and felt much better in May - 800M as well)
And extracurriculars and volunteering in the mix, etc. etc, usual shabang.

So, what are some other good schools for engineering that I should apply to? I'm in Charlotte, North Carolina and don't want to go too far unless it's for a REALLY good program (cough cough MIT cough cough) but there aren't that many high level engineering schools out there which I've come to grow fond of.

Any good schools? Also certain reasons which I don't want to go into dictate it cannot be in California.

Virginia Tech
Georgia Tech (somewhat expensive if you don’t get the President’s scholarship or some such)

Have you run the net price calculators on all of the schools?

NC States engineering program is high quality and very rigorous.

I think Virginia Tech is your best safety school.

University of Florida
Clemson University
Ohio State University

Too bad you can’t come out to Cali. Caltech, Harvey Mudd, and UC Berkeley all have excellent engineering schools.

Out of State, but still amazing schools

UMichigan
UIUC

Your GPA and SAT scores are right up there.

Carnegie Mellon
Case Western Reserve
Duke?
Lehigh

UNC Physics and Astronomy department offers a concentration in astrophysics. NCSU Engineering is excellent and much more affordable than V tech OOS. Clemson is good for engineering and with your grades/scores you likely qualify for the Calhoun Honors College. Take a look at their programs and scholarships.

Sit down with your parents, and run the Net Price Calculator at each place that is on your list. Find out if your parents truly are ready, willing, and able to pay the amounts of money that these places expect them to pay. Find out how your parents feel about you working while you are in college, and whether or not they think it is OK for you to take on any student loans.

Your GPA and exam scores are very good. If money is an issue for your family, you might find some options here:
