My parents are divorced, but they hold joint custody over me and my sister. My dad claims me as a dependent on his taxes. For calculating the EFC, is just my dad's income relevant, or would it have to be both parents?

It does not matter who claims you on their taxes. For FAFSA it is the parent you live with the most you should report. If you do not live with one more than the other (which would be unusual) then report the one who provides the most financial support. If neither provides more than the other then report the one who earns the most.

Ok, so how about for sending W-2 forms? Same process?

Are you just filing FAFSA? If you are filing FAFSA you don’t generally send any forms to the school unless they specifically ask you to.

If you are also filing CSS (about 300 schools require it) then you may also have to report the other parents income and assets. You would enter the custodial (one you live with the most) on CSS then the non custodial would have to fill out the non custodial CSS, if required by the school.
