Do Adcoms Closely Follow These Forums?

I've posted my stats here a number of times, and am slightly worried that a college admissions officer might connect my real name to my forum name and go through my posts, some of which I might not want him/her to see.

So do they?

no (10 char)

they might if you try to draw attention to yourself like this ;)

Adcoms, if you're around, please post here.

Now we'll find out. :)

Admissions people typically only spend 10-15 minutes on each application.
They have a million to go through.

I highly doubt they're going to take the time to check and see if Applicant X matches the profile of someone on CC. Besides, I highly doubt they'd remember any posts in particular.

Adcoms have posted on these forums throughout the year and they have been very helpful, the ones from Tufts and Johns Hopkins come to mind most readily. However, I don't think they come on here to check or compare profiles, but rather to answer questions and give guidance in general. By this time of year they are busy doing their thing and CC might not be a priority, which is why their presence might not be as obvious right now.

For now, just assume that this is a non-issue. Don't worry about it happening and affecting you.

In the future, know that it could happen, and that's really all that's important. Bear the fact in mind as you post personal or sensitive info.

No, I don't believe so. They don't have the time. It's not productive to spend a lot of time chasing down comments from random unidentified people who may or may not have applied to your institution.

Also, anyone who tried to track a student down via their posted CC stats may have an added challenge--students don't post stats accurately.

There's a difference between admissions officers that browse CC occasionally and those that register usernames and intend to answer questions from other users. The latter's presence is obvious (duh), but I doubt the former spends much time on here, especially during reading season (now) when they can't even afford to meet people in the physical admissions office. I've seen comments - in particular in the Yale Daily News - that suggest that they browse their college-specific forums once in a while just to observe the discourse, but they certainly wouldn't pinpoint specific users. Google, MySpace, and Facebook searching are faster and probably more telling anyway.

that is why the adcoms, when registered on this site are screened and it will be announced if they are really an adcom or not

I have never seen any evidence of adcoms snooping on applicants here. It wouldn't be easy for them to connect an applicant to a forum name unless the person posted something really unusual and detailed, and they would always have to worry about being wrong.

Ah! I thought we had agreed to let this thread die!
