Do admissions officers know what income bracket you are in when deciding?

A couple of thoughts.

First – you can probably get the application fee waived at most schools. While filling out lots of apps is a pain, it does give you the maximum chance to package shop, which sounds like a necessity.

Second – some good news – if your grades, scores, etc. make you a legitimate candidate at Harvard and Dartmouth, you are almost certainly a ‘merit’ aid candidate at many schools. Do your homework, but it sounds likely that you can find a full scholarship at some excellent school.

Third – I’m sure there’s a thread here somewhere on ‘need blind’ schools. It should list schools that guaranty to meet full need if you are accepted. If not, I’m 99% sure that there’s a wikipedia article on this, to help start your research.

Good luck

zephyr: need blind and meeting full needs is not the same. NYU and others practice need blind admissions – but they don’t guarantee meeting full unmet financial aid.

HYP, Amherst and a few others – do both.
