Do admissions officers read the entire essay?

I was talking to one of my friends who is going to be a sophomore in college about college essays and she said that it was a possibility that UC admissions officers would stop reading your essay if they felt like they understood the gist of your essay. However I’ve seen online that people write essays about failure or a negative experience and then turn it around in the later part of the essay.

Is what my friend said true? (Obviously only admissions officers can truly answer for sure but based on what you all know…)
Should I avoid topics like that?

I’m very cynical about the entire application process, so I’d perhaps be best served to not comment further.

Now how would a college soph know?
Count on them reading the whole thing. No way you want the climax in the middle and then what? They wouldn’t be impressed with that.

Try to think through your whole app and what it needs to show.

You’re asking whether it’s possible that someone might not do his or her job well.

I suppose it’s possible-- that a particular Adcom might be having a bad day and not finish an essay.

But would I risk my college application on getting that Adcom on that day? And on the word of a College Sophomore?

Um, nope.
