Do all bus econ, econ, accounting majors do good in their classes and hit it big?

do a lot of bus econ, econ, and accounting students start with a really good salary once they graduate?

Well, classes are curved, so not everyone does well in their classes.

No, not everyone hits it big. It also depends on what you consider a good salary. If you consider 100k starting good, most bizecon/acc majors will not hit that.

lol Altema, you gave a response
I was going to be a troll and just say 'NO' and leave it at that

but seriously, you can't say that everyone in any major all do well and hit it big. still I think that the starting salaries econ/bus. econ majors get if they are hired are pretty good.

I was tempted to go NO as well. The way the question was asked was basically inviting a troll to reply :(.

what are avg. starting salaries for bizecon majors (if UCLA releases it)? Does it help to get an accounting minor? I heard most bizecons minor in accounting.

Most bizecon majors minor in accounting because fulfilling biz econ requirements put you like 3-4 classes away from finishing the minor. Its worth it just to do the minor. The accounting minor will help if you want an accounting related job. The big companies like to see the minor or at least they like to see you completing courses required to sit for the CPA exam.

I'm not aware of any released salaries from UCLA.

Well it shouldn't be that far off from what Cal grads are making. http://career.berkeley.edu/Haas/HaasSalaryReport2008.pdf
Career Center - What Can I Do With a Major In...?

And the average salary for both seems pretty good.

i think econ majors start in the 50k range? bizecon slightly higher? i honestly dont think its that different. bizecons have that accounting edge, but they would have to minor in accounting to get their CPA stuff. i am not entirely sure of this, and havent really given it much thought, cuz im kinda shooting for grad school after undergrad.

The Big 4 CPA firms' starting salary for this year is $50k.

You're in for a miserable life.

^zotan is right

Beyond the minor, you have to still find 2 units to fulfill the unit requirement for the CPA. The minor puts you at 34 units and you need 36.

Depends on a lot of things. The industry you go into, for one. Majors do not always translate to a certain career. For ex, most psych majors do not become psychologists. And just because you’re in bizecon doesn’t mean you’ll go into the many variants of… “business”. I mean, I could have a bizecon degree but decide be a starving yoga instructor or something.

http://blog.bioethics.net/images/wsj_starting_salary_by_major.gif

this is really sad, because after conversing with a lot of people it looks like my major is crap when i go to the work world, and i know a lot of people say you should study what you want in college but anything related to econ looks more attractive the more i look into it

zotan,

Why do you say “miserable life”? I’m going into business/accounting…

don’t worry, Buz/Acct is good. just try to have above 3.5 of GPA (and after 2010, you may not have graduated then), u will be in good shape

im curious to ask why is accounting hard, is it because of the competition, the material, professors, or a combination of all these? and what is the difference between accounting and economics, and is it an easy major to get into, even if you don’t go to UCLA and excel at?

eptar32, I’m wondering the exact same thing.

If anyone could answer that question, that’d be great.

I wouldn’t say accounting is too hard. I believe if you put in a good amount of hours, you will get a good grade.

If you do find it hard, its probably because you dont like the teacher’s style of teaching as well as the classes being curved
