Do AP teachers at your school give you grade changes if you get a certain AP score?

I know students that have gotten 5’s on the AP test and failed the class because they refused to do the homework. He still failed the class and the teacher refused to sign off on him getting any college credit for the class at the college that he went to (required a signature from the teacher stating that the student was qualified in the subject and not just test smart).

This kid could recite the book backwards without any mistake while correcting typos. I think that this is unfair.

But, only 2 people on average get 3’s or above from this particular teacher’s class.

To conclude, the AP teachers at my school don’t give a rat’s behind about the student or what the student deserves, and won’t change grades.

@hkobb7

I agree regarding the thing about the score pulling the grades up. It was more about the straight A’s comment. It is less about him and more about a common trend of believed superiority I am seeing with most high achieving high schoolers lately, especially in my own class. This website has definitely humbled me to show that there are kids better than me and kids that have more struggle than me. It doesn’t matter if I am top in my class, there are others better than me.

Sorry for the completely irrelevant post.

My school will consider bumping an 88% to an A if the student gets a 5 and shows that they are actually dedicated.

Meh, I can’t get too worked up about what I find on the Internet. Maybe I’m desensitized now. Yeah, I’ll go with that.

@cardoza: I’m pretty sure he was mocking the ridiculously high goals most CC users strive for, not making a serious statement.

@DavidSSabb94: I would agree, except if you look at his other posts like “I love how unrealistic everyone’s scholastic resolutions are. It’s good to dream, I guess.” “Cool assumptions. What would be cooler was if you knew what you were talking about” Actually, looking at some other posts of his, it becomes obvious he is a fraud. He states in a few that he was less than top 50%, on others that he has a schedule that is impossible to have, especially because there is no American Government IB HL class, especially a “gifted” one, or an IB HL Calculus. There is only Math SL/HL. Whatever. I am over someone whom must lie about themselves on a college prep forum.

@hkobb7: guess you were right, he is just some internet person, not even in the league that I am enraged about.

@cardoza: I know you are talking to someone else, but I just thought I would clarify. Our school actually says IB Calculus SL/HL instead of IB Math SL/HL. Technically, the proper terminology is IB Math, but since my school says calculus (even on our schedules/transcript), it is entirely possible that other schools do as well.

@tennis101: I will accept that one, even though the curriculum is far too different from Calc AP BC to be a combined IB HL/AP Calc BC. The one about government is completely erroneous. There is no analysis of individual governments in the IB curriculum. There is a brand new world policies course, but that is about it.

Thank you for your reply though, you have taught me something new.

Some schools do it, and some don’t. At my school, there is a strict policy set by the principal that teachers can’t change grades due to ap exams. =P

Yes, I understand what you mean…I’ve never heard of an IB Government course either, and I was also annoyed by the pretentious comment about making straight A’s.

It’s nice to meet a fellow IB student though :). What classes are you taking?

Bio AP
US AP
English HL1
Latin 3
Pre Calc H
Physics SL/AP (I have to self study the extra SL material, like 2 chapters)

Next year-
English HL2
Bio HL
History of the Americas HL
Latin SL
Math SL
Chem AP

My school makes English HL, History of the America’s HL, and Math SL mandatory for IB kids for some reason, even though we have Art HL, Psych HL, and used to have math SL

you?

This year I’m taking: History HL, English HL2, Bio HL, Math SL, TOK (Theory of Knowledge), and orchestra

Last year, I took: Chem SL, Spanish SL, AP US History, English HL1, Pre Calc H, and orchestra

My school makes English HL mandatory, and TOK is a year long course for us. Also, both Bio HL and Chem SL are double block courses in my school. My school doesn’t offer Psych HL, but if it did, I would definitely take it.

Anyways, I’m almost done with IA’s now…I just have a TOK presentation next week, and I have to finish my History IA :).

Our ToK is second semester Junior year, first semester senior, I don’t know why. I forgot to mention it because we take it at night. I just did a philosopher presentation last night on the Stoics. How is Chem SL and Bio HL blocked? HL classes are two years long, meaning you should be taking two years of Bio. Bio AP counts as the first year. Same with APUSH for History HL. My class can’t have psych HL because not enough people went into psych SL. They all chose art SL instead, and a few chose physics. What is your IA about, and isn’t it due today? I was thinking about either writing mine about telomeres as the key to longevity or the effect of sex on high school students’ gpa and test scores.

Yes, HL classes are supposed to be two years long, but in my school, we take two classes of biology in one year instead of spreading the material over two years. So, we still learn the same material. I guess this makes it easier when we do time consuming labs, since we have two hours for the lab instead of one. But, APUSH does count as the first year for History HL for us.

Are you asking about my ToK presentation or History IA? Neither of them are due today for me. My ToK presentation will be on Monday…my topic is about the recent budget cuts for art programs in schools. My History IA is about the development of the July Plot and the conspirators’ motives. I think it’s due next week too. Maybe my teachers just wait until the last minute. Your potential topics sound interesting. I like the topic about telomeres…it’s a unique idea for an IA.

Ugh. Sorry, I have been thinking about EE’s. I haven’t even started anything for Physics IA’s, and I still have two single labs and then a group lab to do. I know my other topic is kinda weird, but I kinda want to do it because it is unexpected. My latin IA one will be about homosexuality in roman culture. I am not obsessed with sex, I just think it is interesting that nobody ever addresses it and I don’t want to write about some subject somebody else is writing about. The telomeres was for the EE too. We don’t really do any of the assesments in Junior year, except for any SL’s

Also, I like your July Plot topic. Most people I know don’t know that it existed, while others just know that it existed and that is it. I only vaguely know how it happened. If it is even okay to do, could you PM me it once you are done? I’m not going to copy, I just want to read it.

Oh, extended essays…I’m so glad I finished that. It wasn’t too bad though…I did a history EE, so I had to do extensive research, but the actual writing of the paper didn’t take too long. I actually think your other topic about the effect of sex on gpa/test scores is very interesting and certainly unique. In fact, the IB graders might give you a higher grade because of the originality of the topic. Is Latin SL a difficult class? It’s not offered at my school, but it sounds difficult…do you have to write your IA in Latin then?

Sure, I can PM you my history IA when I’m done. I don’t think it’s against the rules because there are a few sample IA’s posted on the IBO website. Yeah, my teacher said it could work to your advantage to have a relatively obscure topic because chances are, the IB grader won’t have an extensive amount of prior knowledge about the topic either. I was initially considering writing about the transition in power from Gorbachev to Yeltsin (basically just the fall of the Soviet Union). But, I don’t think I could write about that in just 2000 words unless I really narrowed the topic down.

SL is, for my school at least, pretty easy. The test though I heard is very difficult. The IA is definitely not in Latin. I do not think there are many people in high school anywhere that could write an essay in latin.

Well, that’s good. That makes the IA significantly easier :).

No… At my school teachers cannot change grades after the last day of the semester unless there was a mistake or something else like that.
