Ok quick question, I am a part time filmmaker, undergraduate researcher and freshman engineering student so when I initially went to career fairs, I wrote that my current job title was undergraduate researcher. However, I don’t intend on continuing research next year (just to get a feel for my harder major classes) and I was wondering if jobs care about my present job.
Should I write that I have no “present” job in school? Or should I write that I’m a part time filmmaker? I make enough as a filmmaker that I don’t think I need another job, but what do you guys think?
You never know who is going to care about what. Since your resume will be relatively light right now, include it all. As you develop more relevant experience, cull the weakest ones and replace them. There is some value at showing you can hold down a job while going to school. It shows you can organize your time and as @HPuck35 says, it demonstrates you can “play well with others.”
As for the specifics of your research position, it sounds like it is your current position. I’d call it your current position because it is. What happens in the future is yet to be determined.
