Do college decisions ever come out early?

Hi everyone,
This question has probably been answered on here before, but I was wondering- do college decisions ever come out before the date that they give out? For example, I applied regular decision to UVM, and on their portal it says decisions come out February 22. Does that mean that EVERYONE’S decision will come out on exactly that date? Or is it possible for some decisions to come out earlier than that? Also, would it make any difference that I submitted my application a few weeks before the deadline?

Thanks in advance!

It depends. Some colleges give “on or before” dates, in which case you might hear early. Some are firm on their dates, and everyone will be notified on the portal at the same time. Occasionally decisions come out late, after the date given, usually because a college got an unexpectedly high number of applicants or other extenuating circumstances.

Unless you applied to a rolling admissions college, no it will not matter that you submitted your application early.

Sometimes you can tell by looking at last year’s threads on CC to see when decisions were released. Some schools do send them earlier than their posted date.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks!
