I am only applying to UC schools

I am not sure if Ucs care about self studying, but they will know if you tell them in the “additional” information section on the application.

My guess is that colleges won’t care.

Many colleges say that they consider AP results only for class placement, not for admission. Also, anybody can claim he or she is self-studying several AP courses; there is no way for the college to confirm that, and a student can just change his or her mind and not take the AP exam.

My son is considering self-studying a subject that interests him, that was my college major and that his high school doesn’t offer. I will be happy to help him if he chooses to follow through with it, but I will be just as happy is he decides that his 5 current AP courses, college applications and time-consuming ECs are enough.

they don’t really care.

They most definitely do care. I am planning on self studying the following courses this year (my senior year). I notified the University of Alabama about this, and they already accepted me! Self studying shows independence and drive, in addition to setting you apart from the unwashed masses. Also, for the most benefit, consider sending a transcript outlining your work.

yeah i just want to show i’m still dedicated. also, yolo

According to this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1384056-how-bad-physics-c-going.html#post14785730

you’ve already taken Chem…I’m confused.

yep i’ve already taken chem, due to some personal issues i couldn’t study properly for the test though and i didn’t get a 5 so i need to brush up on the material and retake. i’m trying for state ap scholar

You can show your dedicated by studying like 4-5 of them … but i mean u do what u want … good luck i think you’ll need it. Lmaoo ! @elf4eva do u value sleep ! :D

UCs are looking at numbers, not at “dedication.” Do well in the stuff you are taking.

“I notified the University of Alabama about this, and they already accepted me!”

Obviously this guy is a ■■■■■.

napalm = ■■■■■, watch out!

Colleges mostly “care” in the sense that if you do well enough on your AP exams, you can place out of certain classes.

Not every lighthearted post signals a ■■■■■, chill out. I mean really, was copy pasting the list of every AP test not obvious enough?

Anyway no colleges won’t know so they won’t care. If you tell them they will know and probably not care since there’s no proof or any indication you’re doing what you say you are.

napalm I think you are slacking in high school and have to stop taking some many easy As and start taking a difficult course load :)

If you self study AP’s and do well on the AP test, then they care right?

@5am6996 - OP is talking about senior year. Since it’s senior year, colleges won’t see that he’s enrolled in a course (because he’s self-studying). And since admissions decisions happen months before AP exams take place, they won’t be able to see his score either. So it would help him if he was enrolled or if he wasn’t a senior, but as the situation stands, it probably won’t.

Oh I get it now, thanks. Do colleges, however, see your scores and give you credit if you self study and take the test? Does it go into our transcripts? And do colleges frown upon those who self study? Sorry I’ve got so many questions!
