Do colleges care about the ACT Writing?

<p>Took the ACT once before, got an 8 on the writing (29 overall). I want to take the ACT once more in hopes of raising my composite score a little, but I don't know if I should sign up for writing again (not gonna lie, it's completely because I don't want to pay the extra $15. Yeah, I'm cheap). </p>

<p>I'm applying to FSU, UF, LSU, Tulane (who doesn't require ACT writing), SMU (writing not required), and Clemson. Do you think any of these colleges would look down on an 8? Be honest, I know I screwed up the writing last time, so I'm almost positive I could get a higher score if I took it again. I've just been having to pay fee after fee after fee this year, so I'm trying to avoid any more I can...</p>

<p>I think you should. I know that FSU requires you to put down your highest SAT writing score, and it probably does the same for the ACT; as far as I know UF doesn’t. If it were like a 10, then no, but 8 is not <em>amazing</em>. I know how you feel, this year is super expensive with everything piling up, but it’s just once, and you might not want to risk it this time.

<p>Not only what aares1 said but when you go into college, they look at your SAT/ACT writing score to see if you meet the qualifications of remedial english. A certain score (forgot what it was) exempts you from it. Otherwise you will have to take an exam</p>
