Do colleges hate those "one line" cliche, banal, trite...lines in the essay?

For example, "I hope to save the world one day" "I hope to shed light towards bringing a brighter future" I guess you get the idea. They seem to be nice little conclusions at the end of a personal statment or a significant learning experience, but do colleges really dislike those one-liners?

in the words of Harry Bauld "avoid them at all costs."

^ haha. straight to the point. :D

BigE, couldn't have said it myself LOL!! Do Not use this type of writing. They get so many of those trite essays, that they put them aside after the first two sentences. Slice of Life essays, baby! That's the way to go. Choose an experience and write about who you really are without using lines like that. Show, don't tell!

avoid clich

By your comment that they are "cliche, banal, trite...lines " obviously you know NOT to put them in...
