Do colleges look at the rigor and ranking of your high school?

My high school is one of the top 15 high schools ranked by US News Nationwide. I was wondering if colleges will value the fact that I go to such a well ranked high school? Will it help me in my admissions?

To give you a scale, students who fail out of my school, often end up making near all A's at their next school.

Thanks in Advance!

You don’t get credit for just breathing the air in the school, but they do read your transcript with the profile of the school in mind. If you are doing well, that is a positive thing. Those who are not doing so well generally don’t get much credit, although there was a time in the past where even C students at places like St. Albans could automatically get into Ivies. That probably doesn’t hold true much anymore except for a favored few.

I’m in the top 15% and have around a 4.52 weighted GPA. How would that look to the ivies?

They are probably looking at your school in the context of how other students who attended your school in the past have performed at their institution.

Some colleges and universities index high school GPAs.

What do you mean index high school GPA?

In addition, @TopTier‌ I see you a lot on duke forums. Duke is a dream college for me and I would much appreciate it if you could do a rough chance me.

@produde‌: By index, I mean the institution takes the grades and the courses provided by your school (incident to the application processes) and then applies its own weighting factors to them.

Your GPA, course rigor, and test results certainly are competitive for Duke.
