Someone said they look at your facebook and google your name to see what comes up. Is this true?

Yes, actually it is true. The VP of undergraduate admissions at UDelaware told me that students being considered for scholarships or significant merit aid are looked up as part of the evaluation process. This, however, can not possibly be done for every single student, but it is done occasionally and can influence the admission officer’s decision.

This is all irrelevant though, because any smart person would not have their privacy settings adjusted so low that someone with no mutual friends could actually look at your profile and pictures.

For one of local scholarship application, I wrote down “Google my name.” Wether they look you up or not, don’t do/post stuff your mom would not like to see online.

Just looked myself up on Google, nothing bad…actually, the first thing that comes up is a nonprofit organization I have a prominent role in, so that’s good! (Also some other EC things and honor roll postings) BUT, even though my Facebook is like completely blocked, I noticed some of my posts on fan pages come up (they aren’t bad, but kinda embarrassing…). I wish I could fix that!

^^^good point. I think more kids need to be aware of how much they do online is really visible!
