My friends think that colleges would accept a kid with a job over those without one, even if that job prevents the kid from doing any/a lot of ECs. Is this true? Would a college accept the employed kid with few/no ECs over the one with no job but is very involved in their school and community?

No. 2. Maybe but not because of that.

This is like asking if MUN is better than Key Club. Or is working at McDonalds better than Taco Bell.

There are no absolutes. Plus, many colleges do not evaluate any ECs for admissions.

Nobody on this forum can predict how any one college or any one admissions officer will weigh work v ECs. The general rule is that colleges want active and involved people --that can be achieved through a job, sports, music, community service or any other type of activity.
