Do engineering students have much free time?

I plan on majoring in electrical engineering but I want to know if I will have much free time because I will work part time on weekends and I also need some time for family and I am a religious person so also some time for that.

There isn’t a good answer to this. It depends largely on the person (their time management skills, their studying style, their grasp of the material, etc.).

In general, there is te possibility for free time if your work style is supportive of free time. Having a part-time job will really put a strain on free time though.

A possible strategy is to lighten up your course load during the fall and spring semesters and take summer classes.

The short answer is that you will have lots of free time, but less compared to those in easier majors. Engineering majors go to parties, football games, church, student activities, and see those family members that they actually like, just like everyone else. However, much of this is dependent on individual factors like your courseload, specialty, dedication, talent, etc - there are people who study aroudn the clock and still fail, there are others who barely show up for class who get A’s.

I worked 20 hours a week while in school and still had time to see my wife and raise my daughters. By any reasonable measure, your free time in college is pretty high compared to later in life (especially if you have a family!).

OP, if you do a search of this forum, you’ll find several other threads on the subject.

I’d say it depends on what kind of student you want to be, because honestly if you want to be a straight A student you will not really have much free time at all compared to your non-engineering friends. Everyday you are gonna have to make the decision between doing something you want to do and school work. You will have time to fit in those things like family and church, but having a part-time job on the weekends wont help. I find that to have free time during the week to hang out the weekends are a prime work times.

HAHAHAH I have a lot of free time, even if I study hard.
I have a lot of free time now because i am lazy…
