Do Highly Selective Colleges really care about AP Scores

^ My kid’s private HS required that all students in AP classes take the AP test. The kid and his/her parents had to sign a form agreeing to this, before the kid was allowed to enroll in the AP class. After the AP tests, they sent a bill to the parents for the cost. The AP scores were included in the official school profile: x% scored less than a 3, y% scored higher than a 4, and so on.

Absolutely report scores on the common app or sometimes you can upload self reported scored as additional info. My DD did exactly that when her subject tests came back with an average score yet she had achieved 5’s so the AP tests in the same subjects. She sent in the AP scores instead of the subject test scores with a successful outcome. If subject tests aren’t your thing but you have 4/5s on the same (or even different) material, it can alleviate any concerns an AO might have by not submitting subject tests which are optional at most top schools now.

If I recall correctly, there was nowhere to report them on the California apps.

Sorry if there was any confusion in my post #15. I was saying you don’t “send” the official AP score report from the College Board to the admissions office as you would the SAT score report. Certainly, one should self-report good AP scores.
@LeastComplicated I think the way the Testing section on Common App is set up now (where you have to select the test name in order to generate a box to type the score in) makes it easier to overlook something. When my kids applied a few years ago the Common App was less automated and there was a section with blank lines to fill in the scores from each type of test. It was easy to see if you left something out.

@ciervo Thanks, that makes me feel better about us overlooking it  . When I was looking at the Common App this afternoon to try to figure out how we did that, I think it was just something about the listing of types of test scores that threw us off. It listed them as ACT, SAT, SAT subject test, AP subject test, TOEFL, … I think it was the usage of AP “subject” verbiage that threw us off - coming right after “SAT subject test” in the list. If it would’ve said “AP exam” or “AP test score” that wouldn’t have been as confusing because in four years, I’ve never heard of the AP exams being referred to “AP subject tests”.

Oh, well, nothing disastrous happened, and she’s going to a great school. But thanks for clearing that up, we won’t make the same mistake with our next kid!
