Do I even have a chance?

Im looking to go into engineering here are the schools im interested in:

U Michigan ann-arbor
UIUC
Iowa state
UCSB
UCLA
BU

Applying for 2013 school year:

Junior year:
AP stats
AP comp sci
H physics
H spanish
english
H pre-calc

Senior:
AP Calc AB
AP chem
AP psyc
Dual credit spanish
english

I want to go into engineering.
W GPA: 3.83
ACT 27 (composite)

Highest math was 32
Highest English was 29

What are your ECs and AP scores? I think you have a strong chance at BU, but UCLA is probably a reach. Also, you might want to retake the ACT. Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1386120-chances-swarthmore-williams.html</a></p>

You have no chance at any of them

I think you need to boost your ACT to have a shot at UCLA. 27 is somewhat low, especially if you plan on majoring in engineering. However I think you have a chance at UCSB. It depends on your EC’s and essays though. I’m not familiar with the other schools though.

…lol…

Your saying a 27 is low for engineering? You’re joking right? The ACT doesn’t prove how successful one will be in college I’m better at math than people with 32 on their ACT.

Maybe, but test scores are extremely important, and yours, for engineering, are low. That is a fact. It doesn’t matter whether you’re better at math than people with a 32 if you can’t show it. And frankly, that type of arrogance won’t help you anywhere. You need to improve your ACT. Fact. Whether you choose to, or stick to your complacent, assuming your better than people mindset is your choice.

^^ Thank you. If you are going to respond like that then good luck getting into any of those colleges. You asked to be chanced and so I did. Do you think that colleges are going to believe that you’re better at math than those who got 32’s just because you said so? No. They’re going to look at the facts. Even if you are better at math like you claim, clearly your test taking skills don’t match up.

@OP: seriously! Stop being so arrogant and accept the facts. Just because you say you are better than people doesn’t mean you really are. On what basis are you saying you are better than math than a 32er? And that test is there for a reason. Your 27 is quite a low score for all those colleges you are hoping for. So please swallow your pride and you might also want to change your attitude. Instagrammar was just providing you with the truth.

Although I agree with people telling him to stop being so “arrogant”, I’m sure you will agree that SAT/ACT scores don’t necessarily correlate to one’s ability/capability/intelligence.

Maybe not, but it doesn’t matter. You have to do well on the tests. There is no point complaining about them. This was the hand we were dealt; these are the cards we must play. Live with it. Work hard and do well instead of whining.

You need to increase your ACT, also what is your unweighted GPA?

I got a 32 on the math section of the ACT and I know people with 32 composites that got 30 on the math section. I was not trying to come across as arrogant and sorry if it sounded like it. I was only trying to say that just because I got a 27 means I’m not able to do engineering.

Unweighted GPA was 3.6

I’d say you could prob get into Iowa State with those stats. Retake your ACT with you want to be more competitive for the rest.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1386414-chance-me-few-awesome-schools-please-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

Chance me back?

you need to try and bring your gpa up for the final quarter. Yeah for an engineering major, you need to bring up your ACT. Don’t take it so personally, everyone works extremely hard and you have to just accept that you need to bring your score up, sorry, it’s a fact and people here aren’t going to sugarcoat it for you because you’re upset about it.
BU is probably a target school, you have a very good shot at getting in. UCLA is definitely a reach. I don’t know about the other schools though.

ACT a bit low for Michigan and UCLA. The others I do not know as much about but at the top of my head I’d say you’d be able to get into at least 1 of those.

Your act and unweighted gpa are both very low for engineering at Michigan and Illinois. The average act scores for the colleges of engineering at those two are in the 30-33 ballpark with average unweighted gpas in the 3.7-4.0 range. BU would be a high match for you since there middle 50% act for the whole college is 26-30 so you wouldn’t be far from the bottom 25% there if you got in. Keep in mind that someone who got a 32 also could have gotten a 35 in math so your argument that you’re better at math than 32ers isn’t consistently valid.

I was talking about people I knew that got 32s. What about Iowa state?
